How soon can i plant my strawberry patch?
strawberries are tubers. They are already growing out of control on my garden, (i live in ohio its anywhere from 70 to 30 on any given day) Any ways you can plant them now, but put them in a spot where they can spread out and not be bothered or be a bother because they will really grow, next year when they come up again you wont believe how much they have spread, good luck, I hope they taste as good as mine do.
Reply:Find a farmers almanac and look up when to plan strawberries for the zone your in. If you live in the midwest now is about the time to plant them.

Reply:They can be planted anytime.

The real growth will begin when the average temperature is 50F or more (10c). that means the average of the night time low and the day time high.

which, like the above poster said, is now.

prepare the soil with some manure or compost if you can. dig it in 8-10 inches (2-2.5dm).

cover the area around the plant with a mulch of straw every year if you want. The straw gives good potassium for sweet berries and also provides a clean place for the berries (but berries that touch the ground are usually eaten by ants).

^^potassium can come from many things though.

The little sprouts that will grow from the sides of the berry plant will turn into new plants if they are allowed to touch down on moist soil. pin them to the soil with little U shaped hooks if you want and then once the baby sprouts roots, cut the stem to the mother plant. You can leave the babies grow right where they are or you can transplant them

or give them to your friends.
Reply:Next time give the area of the country you are living in. Most areas are past frost now so you can safely plant your strawberry. Plant it in well worked soil, no deeper than it is currently in it's pot. and give plenty of room as they put out runners. Give it full sun and water well, and you should be just fine. If you have a problem later in the season with slugs (shelless snails), get some Diatamacious Earth. This is organic, poison free, ad easy to use- just dust on plants. Causes tiny cuts in these pests and they dehydrate and die. Safe around children and pets. Good luck and enjoy your berries.
