How can I keep birds and squirrels away from my strawberry plants?
before your strawberrys turn red get some small red christmas balls and spread them around in the plants. the animals will try to eat them and get discuraged and when the real fruit turns red they wont bother with it thinking its the christmas balls.
Reply:Play "SHE WILL BE LOVED" by Maroon 5 and "YOU RE BEAUTIFUL" by James Blunt ... That 'll keep those squirrels and birds out of your garden.
Reply:maybe a scarecrow could work for the birds...
Reply:You can try putting a net over them.
Reply:Well, I feel the same way about the vermin... try using a plastic owl, or and some rubbersnakes. You might want to build a wire cage around them. But I suspect that you will have to share with the wild life...grow a little extra, I have the problems with the squirrels also, they are quite a mennis...i was thinking of the have a heart traps, but think what if they have babies in the trees so i just put it off and offer alturnative foods. Now the dog has decided that she also loves the berries.
Reply:The only thing that works for me is a chicken wire basket that my husband made. It's a foot high, so it doesn't touch the plants, bees and insects can get through it to pollinate the blossoms, it doesn't cast shade so the plants get lots of sun, but the birds and squirrels can't get through it.
Reply:Put mothballs around your plants. Any plants you don't want to be eaten by wild animals. It is like a repellent for them.
Reply:A shotgun with slugs
shoe buckles
