Is it true that the strawberry is the only fruit to have seeds on the outside? If not, what other fruits do?

Bit of office debate that needs sorting out.
Is it true that the strawberry is the only fruit to have seeds on the outside? If not, what other fruits do?
Scientifically speaking, the seeds (achenes) are the fruit, and the fleshy part is the accessory, or a type of modified receptacle.

So from a strictly scientific viewpoint, the flesh isn't a fruit, so the strawberry is not 'a fruit with seeds on the outside' rather it is 'an accessory fruit with small fruit coating it'

complicated, i know.

also, the strawberry is not actually a berry, nor are blackberries or raspberries. In the simplest sense, a berry has it's seeds in the inside, and the fleshy fruit (the ovary) is an edible casing. Therefore apples, tomatoes, blueberries and gooseberries are berries.

Citrus fruits are modified berries called Hesperidium, and the fruit of plants in the cucumber family (cucumber, squash, melons) are called Pepoes (sing. Pepo)

Reply:Hmm I was gonna say all the berries but now that I think of it you're right strawberries are the only ones I know with seeds on the outside. Good question.
Reply:I can tell you that a stawberry like most things we call barries are not barries, thats all I know about stawberrys.
Reply:raspberry

Reply:true
Reply:Yes, i think it is, but this makes a strawberry a false-fruit
Reply:Pistachios! They are not just nuts, fruits too! When I went to Malaysia, I saw the seed at the top of the fruit (pistachio). Seriously, it is true. Well, you may accept it though. :)
