What is my transmission fluid suppose to look like? Rusty orange, or strawberry red/pink?

What does it look like if it needs to be changed or is burnt? I was recommended a flush and change for 99.95 for the dodge intrepid, 2002? I don't want to throw money away. But I don't want to ruin my car either.

trans fluid is strawberry red if its orange looking it parable has a additive or break fluid in it.some people put the break fluid in to help keep the filter clean %26lt;thats a myth%26gt; take your car to trans specialist have then flush and change the filter,ask if can watch them to make sure they change the filter and not just flush it.
Reply:Yeah, it should be the color of strawberry cool aid, it should be clear and red. If it isn't, change it right away, (and the filter). transmissions are to sensitive and expensive to not change the fluid. Another way to check transmission fluid is by sell, it is impossible to describe the smell, but it smells very different the worse it gets.

Reply:bright strawberry red - if its brownish red, change it and the filter - i think OEM recommendations on that car is a oil and filter change every 25000 miles
Reply:listen to the ASE master tech. Shops do make their money on fluid flushes alot of the time, but that's not to say that they're not worth doing. If you can save 6 grand by spending $100 dollars, why not?
Reply:We recommend fluid and filter changes every 30,000 miles, with just a flush every 15, 000 miles. it makes sense to do everything you can to keep the transmission in top shape. Here's the real kicker. If you haven't had regular transmission services, then after waiting too long, the new fluid can cause a marginal transmission to fail.
Reply:transmission fluid should look orange ish. as for a flush.. is your transmission starting to slip?, how many miles? a lot of shops "make Money" doing flushes, so just be careful. Oh and "burnt" tranny fluid stinks and you can definately smell it if it's burnt.
