I have just planted 6 strawberry plants, as an experiment?

Anyone out there got tips on the correct procedure for growing these ?

Give those bad boys plenty of light. Don't need to water much until they sprout as the seed should contain all the necessary nutrients. But water a little to get them going. You may also want to build an enclosure with chicken wire to protect from cats and slugs. Finally give plently of love, sit back and watch them grow.
Reply:Well, if you've already planted them I don't know what would help, but, anyway. Strawberries should be planted on a small hill so they won't drown in a heavy rain. I usually mound up a little dirt and then put a ridge around the mound to catch rain away from the plant. The plant will grow and take over the mound but the roots will be out of a real heavy down pour.

Keep the strawberry plants watered after you plant them. Feel them with your finger and just water when you feel it needs the water. If the dirt clings to your finger there's enough water in the soil.

Keep them weeded!

Enjoy your berries! They taste so much better when they're grown at home!

Thank you

John
Reply:They will grow on most soils very well and can take a lot of punishment. I have had 12 pots of them outdoors all winter, and they are still going strong. When they start to flower, I would suggest that you lay straw around them so that the slugs can't creep up and steal your fruits. Water once a week when soil is dry to ensure good fruiting.
