When is the best time to take a cutting of a strawberry tree and the best way to do it??

The best way to propagate Arbutus is by semi-ripe cuttings from summer to early autumn. Use ericeaceous compost and bottom heat, and keep them humid. To propagate from seeds is a bit harder - the seeds need to be soaked for 48 hours in warm water to remove the pulp, then 'stratified' (treated with a period of cold) in sand, in the fridge for 12 weeks - germination is erratic (through experience!). Cuttings are much more successful.

Not sure to be honest, but I would perhaps try in the spring. Rather than cutting, simply take a 'slip' from the lower branches of the tree and make sure you choose one that does not have fruit on it. Just gently pull the branch downwards so that it peels off the main trunk - as close to the bottom of the tree as possible. Then trim off the torn bit but be sure not to cut off the 'heel' where the branch joined the trunk. Dip in rooting compost and stick into some ericaceous compost.

If your Strawberry tree is large, you could try taking slips at various times of the year to see when you have success.

"Propagation: Strawberry tree is propagated by seeds, which germinate readily, and by cuttings of half-ripe wood taken in summer or autumn."
