Strawberry Mousse Cake:

10 servings

Sponge Cake

3 eggs, separated

1 pinch cream of tartar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon lemons, rind of, Grated

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 pinch salt

Strawberry Yogurt Mousse

1 1/2 envelopes unflavored gelatin

1/4 cup water, cold

2 cups strawberries

1/3 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/2 cup plain yogurt

1/2 cup whipping cream

Syrup

3 tablespoons water

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons strawberry jam or kirsch liqueur

Cream Frosting and Garnish

2 cups strawberries

1 1/2 cups whipping cream

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

CAKE: Butter and flour the bottom and sides of a 9 inch spring form pan; set aside.

In a large bowl beat whites and cream of tartar to soft peaks.

Gradually beat in 1/4 cup of the sugar, continuing to beat to stiff peaks.

In a separate bowl beat the yolks with remaining sugar until light yellow and thickened.

Scrape yolks over whites, add lemon rind and vanilla and fold together.

Sift flour and salt over batter, folding in gently but thoroughly.

Transfer to prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes or until the top springs back when lightly touched.

Let cool in pan on wire rack.

If making ahead, remove from pan and wrap well for storage at cool room temperature for one to two days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

MOUSSE: In a very small saucepan sprinkle gelatin over water; set aside.

Rinse, hull and puree berries.

In a small saucepan combine puree, sugar and lemon juice and heat gently just long enough to dissolve sugar.

Remove from heat.

Warm softened gelatin over low heat until clear and syrupy.

Stir into strawberry mixture.

Transfer to a large bowl and chill to consistency of raw egg white.

Whisk in the yogurt.

Whip cream until form; fold into mousse and return to fridge.

SYRUP: In a small saucepan bring water and sugar to a boil.

Remove from heat, cool and stir in liqueur.

ASSEMBLY: Using a long serrated knife, cut cake into 2 thin layers.

Place top half, but side up, in the botton of a clean 9 inch spring for pan.

Drizzle half the syrup evenly over the cut side of each of the 2 halves.

Spoon strawberry mousse over cake in pan; don't worry if mousse extends over the sides.

Set remaining layer, cut side over mousse, pressing gently.

Cover and chill thoroughly, overnight if possible.

Release sides of pan, and using a wide lifter, transfer cake to service plate, doily-lined if you've thought that far ahead.

CREAM FROSTING AND GARNISH: Rinse and hull berries.

Slice thinly.

Whip cream until it's stiff and firm.

Sweeten with sugar and spread evenly over top and sides of cake.

Arrange berry slices in circle around the top and bottom edges of the cake.

Refrigerate until serving time, which should be within the following hour or two.

I don't know whether to put her in a red, white and/or blue dress, or go with a different color. I'm thinking royal blue with star-shaped rhinestones.

Royal Blue is the only way to go. ! or you could put stripes on the bottom of the skirt of red and white!

I want to have a strawberry plant..can i just bury the whole strawberry in the soil?

Hihi...last time i have asked about the way to take care my strawberry plant..thanks for the advice..but unfortunately....the plant was dead..it might because i dont have experiences...or over watered... the strawberry seeds its on the fruit itself right..? if like that, can i plant the strawberry fruit in the soil..so it will grow to a strawberry plant? can it works like the grapes fruit..where i can plant the whole grapes fruit in the soil... if really can....can advice me what can i do.. thanks
I want to have a strawberry plant..can i just bury the whole strawberry in the soil?
    Technically this will work.

I have a habit of digging all vegetable scraps and leftover plant tops back into the ground where they can rot down and be reused the next season - bottom soil is turned over to the top.

In doing this for a few years now , I have managed to have about a dozen strawberry plants come up by themselves and they are all performing very well - the first fruiting season for them here is in about 8 months time so time will tell how good a plant they all become.

All I can do is wish you luck - just put the berries in and be patient - may not grow the first year and need to dry off and regrow from that the next year.

Good luck and keep the gardens growing - much better taste than the shop bought rubbish.
Reply:Technically the strawberry isnt a fruit at al. One of the trademarks of a fruit is that the seeds are on the inside. the reverse is for vegetables the seeds are on the outside. so technically the strawberry by definition is a vegetable and the tomatoe is a fruit. in either case if u bury either one it should produce a plant if the strawberry is taken from a healthy plant. now when is the part i aint sure of i know if u leave it unpicked the strawberry will get bigger and more sour. this maybe the time to remove it and try planting it. also i dont know if simply scraping the seeds from the outside of the strawberry would do the trick.
Reply:You can try, but it isn't likely to work. Alpine Strawberry can be grown from seed. Most other strawberry plants are grown by propagation - taking a cutting from a runner and replanting that.

My advice would be to buy a strawberry plant or two and plant it in goodly composted soil. After they are established, you can propagate them. Soon you'll have enough to start your own jelly and jam business.

How long does it take for a strawberry birthmark to go away?
My 3yr old has one on her back. The doc. said it would go down in a year or two. I don't see much difference at this point. However, I see some people say it can take longer. I have decided that as long as it is not growing and causing health problems.... I am leaving the decision for removal up to her when she is older.

i have been reading around, trying to see if i am meant to pluck the flowers off; but all the articles i have read talk about a white flower.... my plants have hot pink flowers???? why is this?
My strawberry plants are growing hot PINK flowers?
There are several varieties marketed at present for their pink flowers, one variety so dark it's almost red. they still produce very nice fruit - sweet and juicy, so don't stress. Don't pluck off any flowers, as they are the future fruits.
Reply:There are a few ornamental strawberries that are grown for the beautiful flowers and not the fruit. They do fruit but it's nothing to right home about. Perhaps you got an ornamental one?

How do you grow a strawberry plant fron a strawberry bought from the store?

It is nearly impossible, you would be better off eating the strawberry and buying some plants. They spread, so you will have more plants at the end of the season. There are 2 kinds, those that ripen all at once and ever-bearing. I like the 2nd kind in my garden, I pick a handful every few days to have as snacks or with meals.
How do you grow a strawberry plant fron a strawberry bought from the store?
    not very easily.

you could try drying it out then harvesting the seeds from the surface, then plant them in warm moist compost. they probably won't come to anything.

You can normally buy strawberry plants that are already developed, then you can propagate further plants by taking cuttings or planting runners, fixing them in place until they take root/
Reply:You can't do it. You need to buy an actual plant and put it in the garden. The slugs will eat the strawberries if you don't put straw underneath the fruit. The plant will grow runners (new plantlets) each year which you have to pin to the soil so they'll grow. Not worth it, buy some.
Reply:You can't,all strawberrys are grown from runners, cut from aparent plant.Otherwises seed

What can I do with a few strawberry plants I found in our yard?

The plants have flowers and I was wondering if I can do something with them to save them? I'm sure the critters will get the berries once they grow. Can I dig them up and plant them in a pot/container? Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!
What can I do with a few strawberry plants I found in our yard?
These more than likely are wild strawberries, will have alot of small berries but are very sour to eat, I have alot of them around and in my rocks surrounding flower bed in my back yard too. I leave them for the birds which are also the ones who planted them
Reply:If you want any berries at all don't try to transplant them now. They will never set fruit if you do. Move the after the fruit is gone to an area where you can protect them from the "critters". If you make a bed for them in your yard they will spread rapidly once they take hold. Put a critter-proof fence around the bed if you can.

How do you make you a two layer cake with half white, chocolate, and strawberry homemade?

I am making it for my baby sister.
How do you make you a two layer cake with half white, chocolate, and strawberry homemade?
This is what I would do

you can buy cake pans with dividers in them, if you don't want to do that you could buy two cake mixes one a chocolate and one a white, prepare both mixes the way it says on the box.in one pan put half of the chocolate save the other half .Heres what to do with the second layer, with the vanilla cake mix you will also make the entire box, however after you have made the mix divide half of it in half so you will only be using a quarter of the mix in each pan,you can have quarter white and the other quarter add a little strawberry flavor and a little red food coloring when it is done you will have to quarters making the other half. You will not have to bake these quarters as long as the chocolate. You will have half of the chocolate mix and half of the white mix left that you can make cupcakes with. You will have two layers but three flavors.I would suggest frosting it with white frosting and a few fresh strawberries.good luck.

How do you make Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry malts?

Weeks ago (I forget how recent), dad, my sisters, and I went to look at some colleges in Rhode Island for a couple of hours. During our visit, we had a bite to eat at a fast-food place called JOHNNY ROCKETS, where I had two delicious malts. One was Chocolate (which I got for myself), and the other was Vanilla (which I split with one of my sisters) and they were DELICIOUS.

How do you make malts? What's the best place to get the ingredients?
How do you make Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry malts?
Malts are nothing more then ice cream, milk, and malt. You can buy Malt at your local grocery store. I add to taste. Use whatever flavor ice cream you want. Basically the same thickness as a milk shake. DO NOT use ice, or sherbet either. Hope this helps you.

Most often malt is found around the chocolate milk mixes in the stores.

I have Just planted two Elsanta Strawberry plants in hanging baskets?

They are thriving and doing very well, and started to produce fruits, do I pick these out in order for the plant to get bushier, or do I just leave them to grown on, obviously my first time with Strawberrys, so am not to sure on the volume of the crop.
I have Just planted two Elsanta Strawberry plants in hanging baskets?
Strawberries are perennials, so they will be with you for a long time.

They will do fine if you leave the berries on to get ripe. Make sure to pick them before they get old and withered, as it could slow production.

Every spring and fall, fertilize with an Organic Azalea and Rhododendron fertilizer. It should be organic fertilizer; not just because I like organic, but because the strawberry fruits have a tendency to touch the soil in which they grow. Kids pick and eat them with minimal rinsing.

When I fertilize, I take a pole and poke it down to the bottom of my strawberry pot. I then pour the granular fertilizer down the 'chute' I created and water it in.

We have four Strawberry pots, with a total of about 40 plants, and it's not nearly enough for a family of four and the neighbor kids.

    Enjoy your strawberries!

Try Sequoia, if it's available where you live. It has large, sweet berries from spring through summer.
Reply:Strawberries prefer to be in the ground in full sun. For bushy plants fertilize before bloom. For lots of fruit fertilize when in bloom.

Strawberry plants - Is it necessary to remove the blooms the first year?

Let em berry and eat em! They'll be fine and produce more next year.
Strawberry plants - Is it necessary to remove the blooms the first year?
It gives the plants an extra growing season to get well-established. If they fruit, it won't be abundant.

    The Muse
Reply:It depends if the plants are actually first year plants or not. If you bought them live they may already be in their second season. Of coures if you planted seed yourself you need to remove the blooms.
Reply:I don't know that it is necessary, but it is common practice in order to give the plants a chance to become established instead of putting energy into producing fruit.

    Recipe Summary

    Difficulty: Expert

    Prep Time: 35 minutes

    Cook Time: 45 minutes

    Yield: 12 pieces

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for greasing the pan

    1 cup walnut pieces, toasted

    3/4 cup pistachios

    1 cup dried apricots

    1/4 cup honey

    4 phyllo pastry sheets

    5 teaspoons sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Brush a sheet pan with melted butter.

In a food processor, pulse the walnuts and pistachios until coarsely chopped. Transfer the nuts to a large bowl. Put the apricots in the processor and pulse them until coarsely chopped, add to the nut mixture and mix well with your hands to combine. Add 2 tablespoons of the honey and 1/4 cup of the melted butter; toss.

Unroll the phyllo dough and lay the sheets flat on a work surface. Keep the pastry covered with a damp, not wet, towel as you work to prevent drying out. Place 1 sheet of phyllo on the buttered pan and brush it with more melted butter and sprinkle with about 1 teaspoon of sugar. Repeat with the 3 remaining sheets of phyllo, stacking each on top of each other and sprinkling each with sugar.

Spread the nut filling in a thin layer on top of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides. Fold in the long sides and roll up the pastry like a cigar. Brush the entire top with even more melted butter and sprinkle the pastry log with the remaining teaspoon of sugar. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Slice the borek into 1-inch pinwheels. Drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of honey before serving.

Can you make strawberry icing out of store-bought vanilla icing %26amp; strawberry jello mix?
I think it might be too sweet but you might as well try it. Just take a spoonful in a bowl and mix just a lil bit of the jello mix. Taste it and see. Most likely you won't have to use much of the jello mix if it tastes good to u. However, you could take frozen strawberries and blend them. Mixing them with the icing will give it a true strawberry flavor. Let us know how it works if u do it... good luck! ;)

I'm not quite sure if they add anything else besides what they say it has in it but It has A mixture of banana, strawberry, coconut and pineapple. I'm pretty sure that all the fruits are frozen except for the coconut. You will probably need to get coconut milk and use that as your coco flavor. Remember not to make it to water. Good luck!

Reply:pound Cake flour 1 tablespoon Butter cooled melted butter, for brushing

    3 3/4 ounce Sugar -- FOR SERVING --

5 teaspoon Baking powder 1 pound Strawberries sliced, hulled

1 teaspoon Salt Sugar to taste

2/5 pound Butter cold, cut into bits 1 pound Strawberries small, whole

1 cup Cream thick Whipping cream

    Instructions for American Strawberry Shortcake

    Prep Time: 30 minutes

    Bake Time: 15 minutes

    Oven Temp: 220C

    1. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using your fingertips, lightly rub in the butter until crumbly. Stir in the cream with a fork then knead lightly using your finger tips until just combined, to form a soft dough. (Work quickly to ensure a tender texture.)

    2. Turn the dough onto a floured board. Pat out quickly. Stamp out 6 to 8 circles, about 3" in diameter. Arrange on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

    3. Gather the remaining dough, then pat out again to form a thick layer. Stamp out slightly smaller rounds than the first batch. Repeat if necessary, but remember that if you overwork the dough, the shortcake won't be light and fluffy.

    4. Brush the larger rounds with melted butter, then place the smaller rounds on top and brush with butter.

    5. Freeze while preheating oven. When warm, bake for 15 minutes or until risen, golden and firm. The shortcakes should be just baked through with a cakey texture. Serve warm.

    6. TO ASSEMBLE: Assemble the shortcakes just before serving. Split apart. Spoon the sliced strawberries, sugared to taste, over the bottom halves. Top with smaller halves and decorate with whole strawberries. Sprinkle with sugar. Serve with lightly whipped cream.

  • Whats the diffrence between strawberry mold and cheese mold?

its me again and i have two more questions from my science project. 1: Why didn't the cheese produce mold as fact as the strawberries? 2: Theres one strawberry that didn't produce mold as fast as the other two. Why do you think that it didn't? Could it havehad some kind of root rot?
Whats the diffrence between strawberry mold and cheese mold?
First fruit actively softens and makes itself sweeter by breaking down its own structure and stored carbohydrates into sugar. At the same time it develops its color to indicate it is ripening by becoming soft and sweet. This signals fruit eaters it is time to spread those seeds. This process make the carbon readily available for fungal growth as well as desirable to us. Strawberries have lots of water so are good growth mediums for fungal spores to germinate on. Why one berry rotted later could relate to its stage of ripening. Fruit actively blocks pathogens in until it is well into the ripening process.

To have root rot you must have a plant in very wet soil. Roots need air but in very wet soil for a long period they begin to fail and diseases invade the plant.

Milk has proteins as well as some carbohydrates %26amp; fat but the fungus needs a ready carbon source more. The fungus does not need much protein compared to an animal it does need the carbohydrates %26amp; fat. Proteins break down into amino acids and ammonia that are not as good a growth medium. A fungus needs a moist place so if the cheese was dry it is not as good a place to grow as a strawberry.

How can I make my strawberry plants become big and healthy?

plant in raised rows, so there is a valley between rows.

You cannot get any water on the plant itself it must go into the ground .

When you plant them, dig the valley and raised rows and lay construction plastic on top of the raised rows where the plants will go and cut a hole for the plant to go in.

Then cover all of the ground with hay. This is the perfect way to grow great strawberries. The plastic will also keep the berries off the ground when they get heavy.

Are there any good recipes for strawberry wine or brandy?

I tried some that was made in a plastic bucket with yeast, strawberries, and water--it took like 28 days or somethng like that %26amp; was good.
Are there any good recipes for strawberry wine or brandy?
Well wine will be easier to make and legal. Your ingredients are right just make sure you use the right amount of yeast. You should be able to get the fermentation done much faster. 28 days is a long time and if the yeast is chugging along slowly without keeping a sufficient CO2 blanket over the juice you'll end up with oxidation. No bueno for fresh fruit flavor. If you have sufficient sugar add a bit more yeast or some yeast nutrients and try warming it up just a touch. You should get a faster ferment and end up with a fresher tasting end product.

As for brandy, well, just add strawberries to a decent bottle from the store. You can't and shouldn't distill. It dangerous and illegal. Slice them in half and after about 10 days of maceration should do the trick. It will change the color of the brandy but no big deal. Just strain it and enjoy.

How can I strip the strawberry blonde color from my dyed hair?

I want to dye it back to brown ASAP. The dye I bought is "high lifting" and works on naturally medium to dark brown hair. The problem is that my hair is light right now and the directions say it won't turn out very well. Other than washing my head like crazy, how can I get my current color to fade out faster?
How can I strip the strawberry blonde color from my dyed hair?
First of DO NOT use and at-home hair color remover kit. I made that mistake several years ago. It nearly killed my hair (which has fortunately made a complete recovery).

Going from light to dark is tricky. You may want to go to a professional for this one.

Would it b OK if strawberry mousse is mixed with red beans and coconut milk?

Doing a cooking assessment at school and can't think of anything interesting!! BTW, the red beans and coconut milk is Malaysian and one of my classmates wanted to do mousse so I thought of the colour for the dessert...
Would it b OK if strawberry mousse is mixed with red beans and coconut milk?
I think the textures might all be a bit mouth filling and gluey. Maybe the smoothness of the strawberry mousse would be better with something with a little crunch that you can use like a dip chip.

Red bean has such a mild flavour and subtle sweetness ...it would be hard not to overwhelm it. It could also do with a bit of liveliness ...maybe some pastry, maybe some fresh fruit, maybe some roasted seeds or nuts

Try to keep the flavours a bit separate so they dawn on the taster and keep their integrity. Really think about the sort of texture you would like to have in your mouth

    Good luck, it sounds like a strange combo but maybe you've got something brilliant in mind (c;

Why are my refrigerated homemade strawberry?

and peach preserves growing mold? Did I get food crumbs in them or what?
Why are my refrigerated homemade strawberry?
You may not have boiled the jars long enough or perhaps left the bleach out of the sterilization. Many people leave out the bleach thinking it will taint the food but the amount is so negligible you never know it's there but the mold is tell tale it's not. Could also be the wax used to seal was past shelf life and shrank away leaving airspace for the mold to get in. I have heard that if you put 2 tablespoons of brandy or whiskey in the preserves while cooking it helps impede spoilage but have never tried this myself. Better Luck Next time!
Reply:I do think it must have been the processing. I'll just have to eat them quickly after I open them. Report It
Reply:was the utensils wet when you used to scoop up the preserves? this could be one of the contributing factor.
    Reply:how old are they?
Reply:Maybe, and maybe you left them out too long on the counter and perhaps they are just too old. Once opened unless refrigerated they spoil like everything else in a jar or can.
Reply:How long have they been inthe fridge. It is possible you got crumbs in the jar. Usually it is time.

Looking for a recipe for Strawberry Bavarian Cream?

Back in Jr High or High School my sister's Home Ec class made this. My sister cannot find her recipe but it was one of her favorites. This is from the early 70's. Obviously it has jello strawberries and I dont know what else. Does anyone remember/know about this type of recipe?
Looking for a recipe for Strawberry Bavarian Cream?
The first recipe uses Jello and the second is more of a 'gourmet' version:

    Strawberry Bavarian Cream

    1 small box strawberry Jell-O

    1/4 cup sugar

    1 cup boiling water

    3/4 cup cold water

3/4 cup heavy whipping cream or Dream Whip

In a small bowl, stir together Jell-O and sugar. Stir in boiling water and continue stirring until completely dissolved.

Add cold water, and refrigerate until slightly thickened.

Beat the whipping cream until fluffy peaks hold, or prepare 1 package of Dream Whip according to package directions and stir in 1 1/2 cups. (Note: 1 1/2 cups Cool Whip may be substituted).

Stir until well blended. To make unmolding easier, lightly coat one large mold or several individual sized molds with mayonnaise or salad dressing. Pour Jell-O mixture in and refrigerate until firm.

    Strawberry Bavarian Cream

    Ingredients:

    1 env. unflavored gelatin

    6 tbsp sugar

    1/8 tsp salt

    2 eggs, separated

    1/4 c. water

1 pkg (10 oz) frozen sliced strawberries, thawed

    1 tsp grated lemon rind

1 tbsp plus 2 tsp fresh lemon juice

    Red food coloring

    1 c. whipping cream

    Fresh strawberries

    Directions:

In top of double boiler mix thoroughly the gelatin, 4 tbsp of the sugar, and salt.

Beat the yolks with the water and add to the falatin mix. Add the strawberries. Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until gelatin is thoroughly dissolved and mixture coats a metal spoon, about 8 min.

Remove from heat and add lemon rind and juice. Pour into a dish and chill to the consistency of unbeaten egg whites. Stir in a few drops of coloring.

Beat egg whites till stiff and beat in two tbsp sugar. Fold gelatin mix into egg whites.

Whip the cream stiff and fold into the mixture. Pour into a 5-cup mold. Chill until firm, or overnight.

If fresh strawberries are in season, use for garnish.

    Strawberry plants help please?
You've described the typical symptoms of a disease that is commonly found on strawberries. This disease is caused by a fungi called "Colletotrichum" and is often referred to as Strawberry Anthracnose. It attacks almost every part of strawberry plants and seems to favor warm weather (between 80 to 90 degrees) and wet/humid conditions.

I would recommend that you start removing infected leaves, stems, berries and place them in a trash bag.

IF your plants are exhibiting severe signs of infection, there's probably very little you can do to save them. However, if the disease is minimal, you can salvage your plants by installing a drip system and place straw mulch around your plants.

The only fungicides that I'm aware of that are currently available to homeowners that controls Colletotrichum are the active ingredients called "Thiophanate Methyl" or "Benomyl". They can be found in some independent garden shops under various names. They should be sprayed every 5 to 6 days but DO NOT eat the fruit within 24 hours after applying these products.

The best thing to do in the future is to purchase strawberry plants that are certified disease-free.

Hope this helps solve your problem! GOOD LUCK!

Reply:Over watering, strawberries like water but will actually try to "grow away" from to much water, put down mulch or straw to keep them moist and only water after you test the soil with your finger.

This could also be a leaf mildew or fungus, what I would do is take an infected leaf off the plant, put it in a Ziploc baggie and then take it to your local garden center and ask an expert. (make sure you put it in a baggie you don't want to transfer any plant diseases to the nursery plants!)

    Good luck

Would coal in soil harm strawberry plants?
I wouldn't think so. Add some good soil amendments - ask the nursery people - mulch, %26amp; you should have a good crop.

Reply:I don't think it would have a negative affect on the berries. After all, berries are very flexible on where they are planted.

Asking all jam makers--does anyone have a good recipe for strawberry jam that does not use pectin?

I tried a recipe but it came out too thick--more like jelly consistency. The flavor is nice, however. I think I may have cooked it too long, because I was afraid of not cooking it long enough and ending up with runny jam that would not set. Any set guidelines I should be following or time factors for boiling the jam? I'm just learning so I would appreciate any tips.
Asking all jam makers--does anyone have a good recipe for strawberry jam that does not use pectin?
    Strawberry Jam

35 sweet frozen strawberries (about 1 bag)

    4 cups sugar

    1/2 cup lemon juice

--Chop strawberries into around 1 cm bits. Put strawberries in a pot and stir for at least 10 minutes. Next add all the sugar and lemon juice and stir for about 2 minutes, and then leave it to boil for around 15 minutes. After that it should generally be ready, pour into a jar or anything, really and leave the lid off to cool the jam, at this time it will be very hot. Leave the jam to cool for at least 15-30 minutes and then it will be ready.

*NOTE: This is not a thick jam. It should still have chunks of strawberries in it.

    Enjoy!

    1 lb sugar

    Juice of 1 Lemon

Put the strawberries into a bowl and mix in the sugar carefully so you don't bruise the fruit.

Allow the strawberry/sugar mixture to stand overnight and then chuck the whole lot into a pan, add the lemon juice, bring to the boil and boil for about 15 minutes.

Pour a teaspoonful onto a cold plate, allow to cool and check for a "Set" by pushing the jam with your fingertip. If the surface crinkles it's ready. If it doesn't set this time, boil for another 5 minutes and try again. Keep doing this until you get a set but be careful that you don't burn the jam - which is easily done.

Pour into sterilised jars, seal and keep in the fridge.

Strawberries are very short on pectin so soaking them in the sugar overnight allows the little pectin they contain to come out fully. Also, the lemon juice contains a lot of pectin to help the jam set.

I've always found this recipe works well but be prepared, strawberry jam is tricky!!! Keep trying and you'll get there in the end!

Jams are suppose to be thick. Perhaps you need to try a jelly recipe, it is thinner.

:: well . i see strawberry flavors everywhere . its like a must for candy . baby bottle pops . skittles . twizzlers . jelly bellies [[ you gotta find the flavor ]] ring pops . they even have strawberry gum . and smarties are chocolate candies . it wouldnt really matter .
Reply:It may be that many people are allergic to strawberries. If a plant has them, their machinery can be contaminated with the strawberry residue, causing it to be all over the other products.

    Strawberry Peach Smoothie

Place 1 c. frozen, coarsely chopped strawberries in blender. You can, of course, use fresh strawberries, but to make the smoothie icy, you will have to add ice, which dilutes the flavor. Plan ahead. Freeze your berries.

Add ? c. each of chilled peach nectar and soy milk. Blend together until smooth (omg! is that how they got the name?!?!), adding more peach nectar if it's too thick to suck through a straw. Or maybe you should just practice sucking.

I didn't add any additional sweeteners because both the strawberries and peach nectar were very naturally sweet, though you could add a few teaspoons of sugar or honey.

I have an ant problem in my garden too and my dad suggested mixing mint extract with water and spraying the plants and ground/pot around them. Good luck!

  • What is the easiest way to make the Neapolitan (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry) ice cream?

My beloved one is to have his 21st birthday in the following months and I want to surprice him with my homemade ice cream. He loves chocolate (and mocca) ice cream. His sister loves vanilla flavor. I myself love strawbeery one.

Can any of you tell me the detail recipe and how-to-make this Neapolitan?

Thank you for all your help, I love you all!
What is the easiest way to make the Neapolitan (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry) ice cream?
Just make the flavours separate! There are lots of recipes on the web for icecream. Try to find something extra fancy, not just plain, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Put chunks of strawberry, real vanilla beans and extra dark chocolate in.

How do you make strawberry jam at home?

How do you make strawberry jam at home?
Hopefully this can help you out.

    Homemade Strawberry Jam

    (25 servings)

2 quarts of fresh strawberries - hulled and sliced

    7 cups sugar

    1 package pectin

    Yield: 4 pints

Important Note: Pectin is a naturally occurring substance found in fruits. When heated together with sugar, it causes a thickening that is characteristic of jams and jellies. Most packages are between 1 and 1.5 ounces. Please consult your package for its reccomended sugar to pectin ration.

Place all the strawberries in a large pot with a little more than half of the sugar (about 4 cups). Add the pectin and turn the heat to high. Stir until the mixture comes to a rolling boil.

While continuing to stir, add the remain sugar and let the mixture return to a boil.

Remove from heat and allow it to set for at least five minutes. Skim any foam off of the top and discard.

Ladle into sterilized canning jars. Process in a hot water bath for 5 to 10 minutes. (All jams must be "processed" (submerged) in a boiling water bath to prevent mold growth.)

Let jam set for at least 12 hours before using. Store in a cool, dry place.

This is a great simple recipe - nothing fancy to take away from the pure strawberry taste.

3 qts. Ripe Strawberries, washed and stemmed

    8 cups Sugar

    1.75 oz. pkg. Powdered Pectin

In large bowl, crush berries with a fork and measure approximately 5 1/2 cups into a 6-quart pot. Add pectin and stir well. Place on high heat and, stirring constantly, bring quickly to a full boil with bubbles over the entire surface. Add sugar, continue stirring and return to a full boil. Boil rapidly for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; skim. Stir and skim for 5 minutes to cool slightly and to prevent floating fruit. Ladle into hot, sterilized, canning jars leaving 1/4-inch head space. Place lids on jars and tighten screw bands. Place jars on a rack in a pot of simmering water, making sure jars are completely covered by water. Bring to a rolling boil. Boil for 15 minutes; cool. Carefully remove jars from water. Check for proper seal. (If lid pushes down, but springs up, jar is improperly sealed; reprocess immediately.) Store in a cool, dark place. Makes 5 pints.
