I planted some strawberry plants this year, should they be covered for winter?
i live in michigan and you don't have to do anything to those, they will haunt you forever ,you couldn't kill them even if you wanted to.
Reply:Yes. I am in california, and I cover them.
Reply:yeah if they are already a spud and kinda if they are just a seed if they are a seed then you need to put some kind of a top coat on the soil so the ground dont freeze and stunt the seed
good luck
Reply:I agree with Kimmy---No !! You do NOT have to cover them.
They are hardy and will come back with a vengeance in the Spring.
Reply:yes. if your weather drops below 40 degrees cover your strawberries, preferably with straw; and
enjoy the crop in the spring. :-)
Reply:yes.
Reply:We do here in Ms. also.. Cover them with straw or leaves just anything to keep them from freezing.
Reply:yes unless you want to eat them frozen..
Reply:yeah,if not they will freeze
Reply:Depends on the type; take sample to nursery %26amp; see if someone will take the time to look in their book for what kind you may have.
I have friends here in Zone 4 with plants that return thicker each year without additional cover (other than normal fall of leaves) over the winter. But, some plants are not hardy to the zone.
