How to take strawberry seeds from a strawberry?

Reply:Strawberry seeds are sterile. They are vestiges of an ancestor. Strawberries spread vegetatively by runners. The above answerers are clueless, or cut Biology class.
Reply:See this please, it discusses strawberry seeds.

Get berry's off a plant that you like when the fruit is just barely too ripe and slightly mushy. (vine ripened fruit will mean the seed has had a chance to mature properly). Gently mash the fruit in a bowl with water making sure not to use so much force as to crack the seeds. Whip the water, a portion of the fruit solids will rise, the seeds fall to the bottom. Quickly scoop out the stuff on the top, carefully drain off most of the water and then in a strainer lined with coffee filters pour the remainder with the seeds and allow to drip. When the stuff on the filter is drained, carefully sort for seeds, transfer them to another coffee filter and dry. Store.

However that is the hard way. Believe me. The mature strawberry plant will put out runners. These runners will embed themselves in the soil and produce young plants. My mother would put small pots with soil in them around the mother and put the runners in the pot holding them gently in place with a bent wire. A young plant would start, when it was firmly established in the pot she would cut the runner and she had a new plant.
