Winterize strawberry/guava tree in zone 7 can be hardy in that region, sometimes getting several inches of snow throughout the winter also allot of freezing rain. The tree/bush is about 2 feet tall and was planted in the spring with 4-6 inches of mulch around the base.
How do I winterize a strawberry/guava tree.Been known to be hardy in zone 7 whereI live?
Put it in a sheltered area, near a wall, but where it can get rain, and put a couple of mulched up bags of leaves over it. It should be fine. I did this for my special Rose of Sharon. Yes there are SOME Rose of Sharons that are special. Good luck, :) arum
Reply:My neighbors have a Pineapple guava tree and they do nothing. It is very hardy and only requires watering and occasional pruning. They get so many guavas that some years they have applied blossom inhibitor in order to discourage so much fruit. This is central coast California. Contrary what people may think, central Calif. does experience a few freezes in the winter but light freezes don't seem to affect plants too much.
