If we plant strawberry seeds then how long before they start to show above the compost?

You know, how long before the green shoots show?

Maybe a very long time - strawberries are slow to develope from seeds and that is why strawberry growers start from plants and let them reproduce by runners. A runner is simply a long tube. After the runner gets to be about 6 inches long a new plant developes on the end and grows roots. When the roots on the new plant are fully developed you can cut the runner and move the plant somewhere else.
Reply:I am a sr citiizen and have never grown a strawberry from a seed--never seen a seed for sale--common knowledge says--no green stuff in a max of 10 days--replant.
Reply:I would say, approximately mind you, till hell freezes over. The seeds on modern cultivated garden strawberries are infertile. If you can find any wild strawberries, which are the forerunners of the garden strawberry, you will see that, while the droups themselves are much smaller, the seeds are much larger than those on garden strawbs. It's a sad fact of life that in order to get more of what we fancy, ie larger strawberries, we ruin the plant's natural life cycle.
