Why does a strawberry grow mold?

Why does a strawberry grow mold faster than other fruits like grapes, bananas, or apples? What's different from the other fruits that makes it grow mold faster?
Why does a strawberry grow mold?
Strawberry fruits are aggregates made up of several small 'fruits', each with one seed called an achene. The flesh of the strawberry is actually unusual as it is an enlarged receptacle, non-reproductive material quite different from the more traditional fleshy fruit tissues of other plants. In tomato the receptacle is the enlarged tip of the flower stem to which the flower is attached - but in strawberry they ripen and form the edible red flesh of the berry.

This is quite different from 'true fruits'. In botany, a fruit is the ripened ovary—together with seeds—of a flowering plant. True fruits typically are covered by a thicker waxy epidermal layer (you might call it the 'skin' as you peal your apple) that provides a more effective barrier to infection than seems to have developed on the modified receptacle that forms the strawberry.

Of course, the strawberry is also very sweet and full of sugar. However, the mold you usually will see on the strawberry is Botrytis - a pest on many different fruits that is also a terrible pathogen for many species of plants, including strawberry, and not just on the sweet fruit tissues.
Reply:sry, im just as lost as you haha
Reply:Strawberry ripens faster than most fruits and catches mold easily because its flesh easily softens just as fast as it ripens. Molds or fungi have existed millions of years ago. One type which lived 350 million years ago, grows up to 20 feet in length and attaches itself to the trunks of treelike organisms. See a fossil of this super giant fungus in the link below. It'll blow your mind!
Reply:You need to eat the strawberry first.
Reply:The skin is thinner, therefore more moisture seeps out faster. The skin on a grape, apple, and bananna is rubbery, ment to keep in the juices. A Strawberry is just a seed pod, and therefore doesn't have the same skin.
Reply:more moisture...dont trip..somday you will be moldy too! its all part of life..
